ingredients background

The Ingredients Behind IN-Perium

IN-Perium is specifically designed using the latest research to elevate your body and mind for peak performance.

When we set out to create the perfect coffee alternative, we identified seven powerful natural ingredients that, when combined, would replenish electrolytes, provide sustained energy, and boost metabolism—all without breaking a fast or causing a crash.
Caffeine

Caffeine has been shown to improve physical performance, including muscular and cardiovascular endurance, and performance in high intensity anaerobic exercise. This is in addition to improved mental performance, such as improved reaction times, concentration, and wakefulness.

Caffeine
Medium Chain Triglycerides

These are easily converted to ketones and provide readily available energy for the body. This can also help IN-Perium to act as an appetite suppressant for those practicing insulin restriction fasting.

Medium Chain Triglycerides
Beta-Alanine

This isomer of the amino acid Alanine has been shown to increase muscular performance, especially during periods of intense exertion from 1 to 5 minutes; perfect for getting that extra couple reps in your X3 set. Performance improvements have been shown for recreational, competitive, and tactical athletic endeavors, and some research suggests a cognitive enhancement effect as well.

Beta-Alanine
Electrolytes

IN-Perium contains Na, K, and Mg. Sodium (Na) and Potassium (K) are essential electrolytes that are critical for cellular function, blood pressure regulation, and muscle and nerve activation. Magnesium is a necessary electrolyte associated with positive impacts on blood glucose, HbA1c, and insulin sensitivity. Deficiency can lead to high blood pressure. Magnesium is primarily naturally occurring in nuts and leafy green vegetables, so deficiency can easily occur with typical western diets.

Electrolytes
L-Theanine

This amino acid is not commonly found in food but is naturally occurring in green tea. Especially when combined with caffeine, L-Theanine has been shown to improve cognition and attention and has been reported to help mitigate the “jittery” feelings that some individuals associate with caffeine consumption. It also may contribute to the positive health effects associated with green tea consumption in other research.

L-Theanine
L-Citrulline

There is evidence L-Citrulline reduces fatigue during exercise and improves exercise performance, aids recovery, increases arginine and creatine levels, and boosts GH production.

L-Citrulline
Coffee Extract

Because IN-Perium is suitable for use as a coffee replacement, it contains an extract of natural coffee to provide the other likely beneficial compounds found in coffee, since there is robust evidence that coffee consumption has health benefits beyond those attributable exclusively to the caffeine it contains.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does IN-Perium stand out compared to the many pre-workout products already on the market?

IN-Perium stands out from other potentially competitive products because it includes MCT oil and electrolytes, two ingredients particularly appealing to the often-fasting, frequently low-carb followers of X3. As a result, IN-Perium can replace pre-workout/coffee, an electrolyte supplement, and an MCT product.

Additionally, IN-Perium surpasses ordinary pre-workouts because it contains no artificial sweeteners and offers a superior blend of ingredients. (see below).

How does IN-Perium compare to other MCT products?

Besides all the other ingredients and benefits IN-Perium offers beyond the MCT component, IN-Perium is also an easily dissolvable powder, and it does not contain maltodextrin, which gives it an advantage over many other MCT products that either require a blender or contain maltodextrin.

Why does the number 9 appear on the IN-Perium logo?

There are 9 active ingredients: Caffeine, Medium Chain Triglycerides, Beta-Alanine, Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, L-Theanine, L-Citrulline, and Coffee Berry Extract.

Why are the ingredients necessary?

(Caffeine): Caffeine has been shown to enhance physical performance, including muscular and cardiovascular endurance, as well as high-intensity anaerobic exercise. Additionally, it improves mental performance, such as reaction times, concentration, and wakefulness.

(Medium Chain Triglycerides): These are easily converted into ketones and provide readily available energy for the body. This can also help IN-Perium act as an appetite suppressant for those practicing insulin restriction fasting.

(Beta-Alanine): This isomer of the amino acid Alanine has been shown to increase muscular performance, especially during intense exertion lasting 1 to 5 minutes—perfect for getting that extra couple of reps in your X3 set. Performance improvements have been observed in recreational, competitive, and tactical athletic activities, and some research suggests a cognitive enhancement effect as well.

(Electrolytes): IN-Perium contains Na, K, and Mg. Sodium (Na) and Potassium (K) are essential electrolytes critical for cellular function, blood pressure regulation, and muscle and nerve activation. Magnesium is an important electrolyte associated with positive effects on blood glucose, HbA1c, and insulin sensitivity. Deficiency can lead to high blood pressure. Magnesium is primarily naturally found in nuts and leafy green vegetables, so deficiency can easily occur with typical Western diets.

(L-Theanine): This amino acid is not common in food but is naturally present in green tea. Especially when combined with caffeine, L-Theanine has been shown to improve cognition and attention and may help reduce the “jittery” feelings some people experience with caffeine. It may also contribute to the positive health effects associated with green tea consumption, as shown in other research.

(L-Citrulline): Evidence indicates L-Citrulline reduces fatigue during exercise and enhances performance. It aids recovery, increases arginine and creatine levels, and promotes GH production.

(Coffee Extract): Since IN-Perium can be used as a coffee substitute, it contains an extract of natural coffee to provide beneficial compounds found in coffee, supported by robust evidence that coffee consumption offers health benefits beyond just the caffeine it provides.

Why didn’t you add these ingredients?

(Taurine): this is a popular supplement ingredient. However, the best evidence supporting any beneficial effect from Taurine comes from a single very small, poorly designed study. The study showed increased maximal effort athletic performance and reduced oxidative damage to muscle cell DNA, but it was a pre-to-post study without a placebo group and had only 11 participants. Other research indicates that Taurine improves blood flow in diabetics and increases insulin sensitivity in mice. It also enhances cardiovascular function and prevents oxidative damage in iron-overloaded mice. Taurine supplementation appears to reduce platelet aggregation in humans. Overall, the evidence suggests that Taurine supplementation could offer health benefits in certain situations, but there is no strong evidence that it provides significant benefits to healthy humans. We avoid including ingredients without solid justification.

(Arginine): Citrulline can be converted into arginine as needed, making arginine redundant. Additionally, there is much less research supporting arginine’s efficacy as a supplement compared to Citrulline. Since we already include Citrulline, there’s no need to add arginine.

(Vitamin B12): Some studies have shown a link between B12 supplementation and increased cancer risk in men. While this is based on survey data, the hazard ratio’s 95% confidence interval is 1.32 to 2.97, which could indicate a serious correlation. Therefore, we think it’s prudent to err on the side of caution and exclude this ingredient, especially since IN-Perium is not meant to be a vitamin supplement.

(Theacrine): This compound is related to caffeine and is popular in some supplements, but we found no evidence of any unique benefits. Compared to caffeine, higher doses of Theacrine are needed for stimulation, and at lower doses it acts as a sedative. The research on Theacrine is also much more limited than on caffeine, making its inclusion questionable.

(Ornithine): This chemical is converted into L-Citrulline, and most research indicates it’s less effective than L-Citrulline supplementation. For example, in one study that showed reduced fatigue with ornithine, the male participants didn’t show improved athletic performance compared to placebo. In contrast, a similar study on L-Citrulline with more male subjects showed significant improvement. Also, the performance gains from Citrulline are more relevant to our focus since the exercise was weight training, unlike the cycling test used in the ornithine study. Since IN-Perium already contains L-Citrulline, adding ornithine seems unnecessary or pointless.

(Tyrosine): It appears to enhance cognition during extended sleep deprivation and exposure to extremely cold temperatures. When combined with a protein shake, it has been shown to improve cognitive performance compared to a placebo containing 255 calories of sugar water, though the study seems designed to prevent learning about Tyrosine’s effects in isolation. Some studies show Tyrosine can improve cycling performance in warm conditions, while others show it fails to do so at the same dose. There is no reliable evidence that Tyrosine offers any significant advantage for the X3 audience, so we choose not to include it.

IN-Perium is described as being useful for “fasting support,” but it contains 25 calories. How is that possible?

There are several schools of thought on fasting. A common rule of thumb is that you can consume up to 50 calories during a fasting period without breaking your fast. If you follow this principle, a serving of IN-Perium is far from ending your fast.

Some experts, including Dr. Jaquish, argue that the benefits of fasting come from the absence of an insulin response. If you’re doing an insulin-restriction fast, you’ll be happy to know that most of the 25 calories in IN-Perium come from fat, which doesn’t trigger insulin. The idea of ‘insulin fasting’ is based on replacing coffee with butter and MCT oil at breakfast, and you can make the same substitution with IN-Perium.

Additionally, if fasting to promote autophagy, it’s worth noting that ingredients in IN-Perium may speed up that process. Studies show that caffeine and decaffeinated coffee both promote autophagy in mice, and observational data suggests this may also happen in humans. IN-Perium contains caffeine and coffee extract. Likewise, research indicates that ketone bodies can promote autophagy, and the body can easily convert the MCT oil in IN-Perium into ketone bodies following consumption.
